Cultural Projects

DDA Engineers, P.A. assists in the development of museums, theaters, libraries, and public parks that inspire and effect positive change on the people who visit or use them. Our goal in this sector is to create spaces that heal, engage, or challenge visitors to think about their history and place in the world. Below are some our proudest accomplishments in this area:

 

Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts
A new 2,480-seat ballet opera house, 2,200-seat concert hall, 200-seat studio theater, outdoor plaza bisected by Biscayne Boulevard, and restoration of the historic 1929 Sears Tower listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Location: Miami, Florida Size of Project: 500,000 square feet

Aventura Arts & Cultural Center
New performing arts center for the City of Aventura, Florida that was completed in 2010 and received LEED Certification. It is a state-of-the-art facility that has 320 theater seats. Location: Aventura, Florida Size of Project: 14,864 square feet / 4-Story Completion Date: 2018

Little Haiti Cultural Center & Soccer Park
The New community-use campus maintained the existing Caribbean Marketplace and added two new buildings.  The project includes a 250-seat theater with dance and drama rehearsal halls and a Cultural Center with an art gallery, arts and crafts workshops and community meeting rooms.  A large open plaza designed to host outdoor community events joins the two new buildings. The professional regulation Soccer Field connects to the cultural campus via street improvements, field includes a 750-seat grand stand, vita course, tot lot and a domino park. Location: Miami, Florida Size of Project: 225,000 square feet Completion Date: 2018

Frost Museum of Science
The Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science consists of three distinct but interconnected structures as well as an independent planetarium totaling 250,000 sf.  The first of the distinct structures is the Living Core, which contains the GulfStream tank and other aquarium exhibits, all in a vessel shaped structure.  The other two structures are the more traditional bar buildings that are adjacent to the Living Core.  Each building has five levels above the at grade parking, some levels having double height spaces to accommodate larger exhibits. Location: Miami, Florida Size of Project: 3-Story / 250,000 square feet Completion Date: 2017

Hadley Park Community Center
The project consist of the design of a new 23,000 sf community center with indoor basketball courts, folding bleachers, lockers, office, computer room, covered entry drop off area, new parking, signage and playground. Address: Miami, Florida Completion Date: 2015

South City Beach Park
The third completed park of the City Wide Parks Master Plan and features new sidewalks, landscaping, 4 picnic shelters, a picnic pavilion with power pedestal for concert events, beach showers, playground equipment with rubber safety surface and decorative fence, volleyball court, basketball courts, and a concession/restroom building. Address: Hallandale Beach, Florida Completion Date: 2015

South City Beach Park

BF James Park
The project consists of a new swimming pool, basketball courts, exercise area and playground. The park includes lighting and restrooms. This park was the second park to be completed under the City-Wide Parks Master Plan. Address: Hallandale Beach, Florida Completion Date: 2014

Moore Park
The project consists of a new two-story community center/recreational building of approximately 15,894 fl. Sq. Ft. that includes a multipurpose room, exercise room, computer rooms, work rooms, and an art and craft room. Type of construction includes reinforced masonry, concrete joists and steel joists. Address: Miami, Florida Completion Date: 2014

Cuban Museum
Renovation of the former Grand Opera building in the City of Miami, Florida.  The building was gutted on the inside to accommodate the museum’s requirements. The design included adding gallery space, research center, exhibit preparation, administrtive offices and an area for a small 100-seat theater/lecture space. Location: Miami, Florida Size of Project: 16,515 square feet Completion Date: 2010

Palmetto Bay Park
The park features a skate park pavilion, basketball courts, boundless playground, a two-story concession building and observation deck and a recreation room. Address: Palmetto Bay, Florida Completion Date: 2008

Palm Beach County Convention Center
This project consisted of the design of a 2-story high exhibition hall, ballroom and meeting space on an intermediate second floor. Address: 650 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach, Florida Completion Date: 2004

Miami Children’s Museum
The project consisted of   22,000 sf of exhibit space; two classrooms; four galleries; two multi-purpose meeting spaces; parent/teacher resource center; gift shop; 60-foot tall conical- shaped entry feature; as well as a 200-seat auditorium. Location: Miami, Florida Size of Project: 56,500 square feet / 2-stories Completion Date: 2003

American Airlines Arena - Back View
The design of the foundations for the Arena “bowl” and the surrounding structure, which included two levels of below-grade parking, two elevated roads (Heat Blvd, and extension of NE 8th Street), the basketball practice facility, Bongos Cuban Café and the exterior plaza.

Miami Beach Convention Center - After Picture
DDA Engineers just completed its Threshold Inspection Services for a 3-year, $620 million renovation of the Miami Beach Convention Center.  This latest renovation project involved 1,425 million square feet.  DDA had last worked at the convention Center when it was the structural engineer of record for a $92 million renovation and expansion project back in 1989.  At that time, the expansion doubled the size of the convention Center from 250,000 square feet to 500,000 square feet.

Joseph Scavo Park
The project consists of a new two dog parks, exercise trail, covered sitting area, basketball court, covered playground and restrooms.  This park was the first park to be completed under the City-Wide Parks Master Plan. Address: Hallandale Beach, Florida Construction Budget: $2.5 Million Completion Date: 2014

Freedom Tower Renovations
Restoration of a 1925 National Historic Landmark, this 16-story structure converted to office space and a museum structurally restoring existing structure to it’s original form by using carbon fiber reinforcement and full depth concrete restoration. Location: Miami, Florida Size of Project: 83,000 square feet Completion Date: 2004 & 2009-2011
